Quick Summary:

The Elna eXplore 130 is the perfect gateway into the world of sewing. As a fully mechanical, dial-operated machine, it strips away the intimidation of computerized screens, giving you a straightforward and tactile sewing experience.
Whether you are learning to sew for the very first time, need a reliable machine for occasional home mending, or want a lightweight companion to take to classes, the eXplore 130 delivers Elna’s renowned Swiss design in a highly accessible package. It provides the foundational power you need to create without overwhelming you with features you aren't ready for yet.

Best for:

Sitting comfortably in our "Starter" tier, this machine is ideal for true beginners, kids and teens learning to sew, or occasional sewists who need a straightforward machine for basic mending and light garment construction.

Why we Love it:

We believe your first machine should be a tool, not a disposable toy. We love the Elna 130 because it provides reliable, high-quality stitching in a budget-friendly package. It gives new sewists a frustration-free foundation to build their skills, learn tension, and master the basics before eventually upgrading to a computerized or professional-level machine.

Key Features:

  • Uncomplicated Operation: Three simple dials let you physically turn to select your stitch pattern, stitch length, and stitch width—perfect for visual and tactile learners who want to understand exactly how their machine works.
  • Everyday Mending & Basics: Equipped with essential utility stitches, blind hems, and stretch stitches, it has exactly what you need for hemming pants, fixing a torn seam, or starting your first simple quilt blocks.
  • Classroom Portability: Weighing only 6 kg and featuring a built-in folding carry handle, it is incredibly easy to store in a closet or carry back and forth to your local sewing classes.

Specifications:

  • Speed: Up to 800 Stitches Per Minute (SPM)
  • Stitches: 23 built-in stitch patterns and 1 four-step buttonhole
  • Max Stitch Width / Length: 5mm width / 4mm length
  • Feed System: 3-Piece Feed Dog (includes a darning plate for free-motion)
  • Bobbin System: Front-loading vertical oscillating hook
  • Construction: Lightweight mechanical design weighing 13.2 lbs (6 kg) with a folding carry handle
  • Convenience: 3-dial visual interface, free-arm capability, built-in thread cutter, and extra-high presser foot lift
  • Included Feet: 4 standard feet (Standard, Zipper, Blind Hem, and Sliding Buttonhole foot)

FAQ:

Does it have a free arm? Yes! You can remove the accessory storage box to reveal the free arm, making it simple to sew tubular items like pant hems and small sleeve cuffs.

Can I sew knits with it? Yes. It includes a variety of built-in stretch stitches. Because it has a 3-piece feed dog rather than a 7-piece, we highly recommend using a stretch or ballpoint needle and guiding the fabric gently to prevent your highly stretchable knits from waving as you sew.

How do I adjust the tension? The eXplore 130 features a manual thread tension dial on the front of the machine. You simply roll the dial up or down to tighten or loosen the top thread based on the thickness of your fabric.

Things to Know Before Buying:

This machine uses a traditional front-loading vertical oscillating hook bobbin, meaning you load the bobbin case into the front of the machine (rather than dropping it in from the top with a clear cover). It features a 4-step buttonhole rather than an automated 1-step buttonhole, and you will need to thread the needle manually. It is designed for foundational, everyday sewing; if you plan on immediately tackling thick leather, heavy canvas bags, or bulky outerwear, you will want to look at our Heavy Duty models.

Closest Comparisons:
  • Elna eXplore 130 vs. Elna eXperience 530: The 130 is a mechanical machine with a front-loading bobbin and 23 stitches. The 530 is the first step into our computerized "Essential" tier, upgrading you to a top-loading jam-proof bobbin, an LCD screen, a 7-piece feed dog, and automated features like a programmable needle up/down button.
  • Elna eXplore 130 vs. Janome HD3000: If you are an absolute beginner making basic crafts and simple garments, the Elna 130 is a great, affordable start. However, if you are diving straight into bagmaking or sewing thick denim, the HD3000 is a heavy-duty mechanical machine with a die-cast aluminum frame, 7-piece feed dog, and superior punching power built specifically for thick layers.

Why We Love it

Are your fabrics sold by the yard or half yard?

Everything's sold by the yard with a few exceptions.  Certain Ribbing & Quilting Cottons are sold by the half yard (but this is stated in the title).

What is your order processing time?

As of Feb 20th, we're zipping through orders in 2-4 business days! 🚀 Please be patient with fabric bundles though, these do take us just a little be longer since they are curated specially for you.

Just a heads up, though - during the holiday frenzy or after a mega sale like Black Friday, it might take up to 10 business days. We're on it, though, aiming to get those gorgeous fabrics in your hands within 5 days!

Do you Combine Shipping?

Absolutely! Place any orders within 3 business days of each other, and we'll snug them together. If they're further apart, just shoot us an email at bohofabrics@gmail.com, and we'll see what we can do. Any shipping overages will come back to you as a Boho Giftcard. 🎁

Do you Refund Shipping Overages?

Great News!  We now offer FREE SHIPPING for all orders over $175 within the Contiguous USA!  If your order is less than $175, we offer flat rate shipping for $12.95.  Due to our new Flat Rate Shipping policy, we do not refund shipping overages.

Can I cancel my order?

You bet, as long as we haven't printed that shipping label. We'll refund your order minus a 5% fee.

How much is Shipping?

For orders over $175, shipping's on us within the Contiguous USA! Orders under $175 have a flat rate of $12.95. Really big orders might need to bypass PO Boxes and head straight to a traditional address via UPS or FedEx.

*Excludes Shipping to PO Boxes, Alaska, Hawaii & Puerto Rico. Shipping overages will be invoiced to customers for packages being shipped to those regions.

What is your Return Policy?

Gotcha covered! If the fabric isn't quite what you envisioned, send it back within 14 days of receiving it, uncut and unwashed, for a refund

Please note that shipping costs are non-refundable as this is a cost incurred and not refunded to us by the carriers.

We recommend obtaining tracking for any returns you send as well as sending us an email so that we can be on alert for the package (and to process your return faster!)

Please send returns to:

Boho Fabrics LLC

14600 York Road, Suite J

Sparks, MD 21152

For any issues with quality or damaged fabric, please send an email to bohofabrics@gmail.com so that we can work on a resolution for you.

Do you offer local pickup?

Of course!  Select Pick-Up at check-out and we will send you an email/pick-up notification once it's ready.

Do you offer International Shipping?

Worldwide, baby! 🌍 Email us for a quote. It's a bit pricier, but we'll make sure you get the best rate possible. Just a note: Special deals including shipping might have extra charges for international orders.

* These are flat-rate equivalent estimates.  If fabric does not fit into the USPS Flat Rate boxes, customers will be billed shipping overages before their order ships.
