Fall sewing has been on our mind, now that we're getting back into the swing of things. Of all the seasons, fall absolutely makes us want to check our fabric stash inventory, tailor clothing that's been sitting on our sewing table AND get some new Ellie & Mac pattern inspiration for fall makes! We also have some terrific Boho fabrics for fall sewing suggestions if you're ready for a DIY wardrobe refresh.
The Boho Team loves Ellie & Mac patterns for so many reasons: they're tried and true for sewists, good for beginners and advanced makers alike, they provide great fit and style, and the sewing patterns all have step-by-step videos that can come in very, very handy.
We'll definitely be making these for fall, starting with the Batwing Tunic & Dress below on our mood board. A flowy midi dress works so well for the transition into fall since we still have some warm days here and there, and it looks right for a wide range of activities from back-to-school events to a casual dinner out. Here's a perk if you're new to sewing: no buttons or zippers on this one, just a cute tie in the back. Ellie & Mac recommends using lightweight woven fabrics with a flowing drape (nothing structured) and we'd choose this Floral Navy Challis - however, the possibilities are endless with this dress! You could also go with a solid navy (shown), espresso or camel. This pattern can also be used to make a tunic top so it's multi-purpose!
Our second must-have fall sew would be the Felicity Fitted Puff & Bishop Sleeve Top, which would be absolutely perfect in a Toasted Coconut Cupro. This cute top is so flattering and has such an elegant but casual sleeve. We love the silky, flowy feel of cupro and are just imagining wearing the Felicity top in this fabric!
The Established Cascading Blazer Jacket is definitely one of our faves, it's such a good wardrobe staple. Ellie & Mac recommends a fabric with a nice, soft drape to complement the pattern. A pliable faux leather would work beautifully (maybe in chocolate or maroon, what would you pick?) but we'd start with this Gray Leopard Rayon Spandex Jersey Knit. Leopard always seems to be in fashion and grey is a neutral but still striking choice of fabric.
A great pair of pants is always in style, and the Not So Basic Pants are no exception! Ellie & Mac has so much inspiration on their site; these can be made with or without ruffles, in a variety of colors. For retro chic, we'd go for the Retro Golden Daisies Ponte Print Knit Fabric, we love the slight flare this pant has. This would be great with a cream turtleneck and ankle boots.
